IT security an ongoing process, says Secure Tangent CEO

Information Technology (IT) security is an ongoing process, not a one-off product or software deployment, according to Secure Tangent Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Beh Swan Swan.

"IT security is more than firewalls and anti-virus software It comprehensively involves employee awareness, processes, methodologies as well as hardware and software products" Beh said at the company's inaugural conference on IT security at Kuala Lumpur last Wednesday.

The seminar, attended by more than 200 participants from government agencies, financial institutions, insurance companies and other corporate companies as well as small and medium industries (SMIs), was the forerunner of an annual event.

"There is a need to provide a smart and extensive relationship network between security systems providers and clients that is able to address the complex problem of IT security currently faced by organisation," Beh said. "We hope to create such a network beginning with this conference."

According to Beh, Secure Tangent also aims to generate more awareness on the need for IT security this year through activities such as conferences, workshops and different variants of training and education.

He said the company would also participate in government related activities in improving IT security in Malaysia.
